Orientation with architectural ambition

At the apex of the Pragsattel, north of Stuttgart city centre, the Porsche Design Tower makes an architectural statement even from a distance with its impressive silhouette. Completed in 2023, the high-rise building reaches a height of 90 metres and is one of the more recent projects by Stuttgart-based project developer Bülow AG.

Behind the distinctive glass façade, 25 above-ground floors house a 168-room hotel and a restaurant with a bar – the latter featuring a spacious open-air terrace offering impressive views over the city. In the seven office floors below the hotel, meng implemented a customised guidance system based on designs by Bülow AG.

The Porsche Design Tower features specially developed multifunctional laminated safety glass that provides both bird protection and sun protection. The integrated bird protection lines have been incorporated into the black glass panels of the wall signage as a silver-coloured design element. This visual motif is repeated on adjacent interior elements.

In close consultation with the architect Daniel Baukus and meng, floor-to-ceiling panelling was installed along the main corridors of the building. The custom-made white glass with chrome coating used for this purpose is mounted without visible fasteners, as is customary with meng. Together with the precisely manufactured, matt black lacquered aluminium panels with foil lettering, they ensure clear orientation.

The overall reduced colour scheme is complemented by bright neon accents in red and yellow, which radiate towards the wall surface. These contrasting, fresh colour accents support spatial orientation without disturbing the architectural clarity.

The analogue signage on the office floors is complemented by two 49" monitors arranged vertically one above the other. These digital signage displays show current information, thus supporting orientation and communication on site. Both monitors and the necessary cabling are housed in a free-standing, 6-metre-high frame that is braced between the floor and ceiling of the lift foyer. This construction allows for elegant integration of the technology without disrupting the architecture, while also ensuring stable and secure mounting of the monitors.

With its carefully coordinated interplay of materials, form and function, meng's signage system not only sets design accents, but also integrates seamlessly into the architectural vision of the Porsche Design Tower – clear, minimalist and thought out down to the last detail.
